About Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercise that was developed over 80 years ago. It consists of a series of slow, controlled, stretching and strengthening exercises and results in a stronger healthier body. Pilates is gentle on your body and is particularly effective in improving flexibility, balance and posture.

Pilates is an excellent method of rehabilitating back injuries and managing back pain. When practised regularly, it can build up core strength and lengthen tight back muscles.

Benefits of Pilates include:

  • Increased core strength and core stability
  • Improved posture
  • Greater flexibility and balance
  • More efficient breathing
  • Reduced stress and fatigue
  • Firmer, flatter stomach
